Adobe After Effects – reduce picture

The periodic problem of reducing the border of images or videos used in Adobe After Effect is solved very simply using the Linear wipe effect. Interestingly, the effect can be used both for video and for a static picture.

Let’s look at an example. So, we have a composition:

For example, let’s try to crop the left side and a little bit below. Find the effect of Linear Wipe:

and add it to the layer that we will adjust:

Let’s look at the method of working with the effect:
Transition Completion – responsible for the size of the effect. It is important to know that the data is indicated as a percentage.
Wipe Angle – the angle of the effect. Of course – if necessary, we can set the angle of the effect using the key points on the Time Line, but now we only crop the left side.
Feather – blur effect.

As you can see from the screen below – the effect settings:
Transition Completion -25%
Wipe Angle – 90 degrees
Feather – 0
result in cropping the video in the desired layer on the left, by 25%. Actually, as required 🙂

Re-applying the Linear Wipe effect to our layer, but with the settings:
Transition Completion -25%
Wipe Angle – 0 degrees
Feather – 0
Cuts the layer 25% below. And we get something like this:

As you can see – just one effect allows you to solve the problem of cropping a video or photo in Adobe After Effect. Thanks for attention!
